Frequently Asked Questions

What is micro-pigmentation?

Micro-pigmentation is an exciting procedure in which color pigments are placed into the dermal layer of the skin using very fine needles. The color can last from one to five years and is a convenient alternative to daily application of makeup. The pigment is made of the finest inert organic and inorganic compounds formulated to be hypo- allergenic and fade resistant.

There may be exceptions depending on a person’s general health, but for most people the following apply…

Will there be any swelling?

Generally there will be a small amount of redness and swelling around the treated area. This will be gone in 6 - 24 hours after a brow procedure, and 2 – 4 days after eyeliner or lip color.

Will the color fade?

A color stabilization period occurs during the first two weeks. In 3 – 7 days, the epidermal (outer) layer of skin will gradually peel or flake off as the new layer regenerates. Allow for a 10% -50% fade during this time. Over time the color will soften.

Will I need to take time off from work?

Usually not, often there is minimum swelling and redness. Ice may be used to reduce the swelling and an ointment may be used to aid the healing process.

How safe is the procedure?

At Permanent Cosmetics of Redding all Center for Disease Control guidelines are strictly adhered to.  We use only single-use sterile disposable needles. All other supplies are discarded after use or sterilized.  Safety is our priority. I have been highly trained to exacting standards. Although there is always a risk of infection, it is relatively low compared to other procedures.

What if I need an MRI?

By all means get the needed MRI. Temporary tingling, redness and swelling have been reported for women with eyeliners. Ask you physician to place wet cotton balls over your eyes during the MRI or ask your Doctor if it is safe to take a non-prescription strength antihistamine such as Benadryl.

How will I know which color to choose?

There is a right color for everyone. We take into consideration your natural skin tone and hair and eye color. A soft natural look is usually preferred, but a more dramatic look can be achieved if you desire.

What if styles change?

As permanent make-up professionals, we never do anything that is too trendy. We use colors that are custom blended to compliment your skin tone, eye and hair color to give a soft natural appearance. However, the color can be changed by blending another color over the original, if you wish.

Is it expensive?

Not if you look at the long-term cost and effect. It costs about the same as a one-year supply of cosmetics.  Permanent cosmetics is a great time saver and worth every penny. Just what we’ve all been waiting for!

Does it look natural?

Yes, very natural, your features will simply appear more defined. Your friends will never know what the difference is unless you tell them.

How long will it last?

This varies with each individual person, though the usual duration is from two to five years. Imagine how wonderful it would be to wake up each morning with two matching eyebrows, or to go swimming and know that your eyeliner and lip color will still be intact when you emerge from the water. You can look your best 24 hours a day!

Will the procedure hurt?

The procedure can be slightly painful. Some patients say it feels like plucking their eyebrows. Others say it feels like slight scratching, vibration or deep pressure. Some clients feel absolutely nothing except a prickly or tickling sensation. We use topical anesthetics to greatly reduce discomfort and promote relaxation. A new two-step topical numbing technique is used to assure your comfort. Afterwards, the area may feel chapped or sunburned for a few days.

How long will the procedure take?

After your consultation visit a 1 to 2 hour appointment will be scheduled for your saturation visit (first procedure). This will be followed by a focus visit to finish the details. All procedures are scheduled approximately 4 to 6 weeks apart to allow the skin to heal and the color to stabilize.
